Rex Stout hosted the NBC radio program
Speaking of Liberty during World War II. In a July 1941 episode on civil liberties (
program no. 14) with philosopher-mathematician Bertrand Russell, Russell states, "Intolerance is dangerously inconsistent with the goal of liberty." Stout replies, "Nothing is more fundamentally antidemocratic or actually more uncivilized."
