Best known for "St. George and the Dragonet," comic and advertising master Stan Freberg died on April 7 in Santa Monica at age 88. Listen to his "Sam Splayed, Detective."

Syracuse's online exhibition "Lights, Camera, Music" features film composers Franz Waxman and Miklos Rozsa, including discussion of Rozsa's score for The Killers—namely, Rozsa's ultimately successful claim that the theme for Dragnet was lifted from The Killers.

Happy birthday, Jack Webb.

Sgt. Joe Friday, also the creator of Emergency! and Adam-12, would have turned 87 today. In Webb's honor, today's "It's a Mystery" featured a radio production of Dragnet, two Dragnet parodies, and Webb's rendition of "Try a Little Tenderness."
